Join Us on the Journey

Welcome to Sauvie Island Community Church, your friendly neighborhood church nestled at the peaceful junction of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers—just 20 minutes (but also kind of a mindset) from downtown Portland.

Yes, we’re a church. No, not the rigid kind. We’re non-denominational, which means we’re kind of like the community-supported version of a church—rooted in relationship, guided by grace, and sustained by a whole lot of potlucks. We love families, we love kids, we love retirees and vacationers.

We've been serving through Village Missions since 1975.

Join us Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for worship, deep conversation, and probably a fresh loaf of someone’s homemade zucchini bread.

We also offer small group Bible studies (BYO kombucha), children’s ministries (yes, we have pipe cleaners), and meaningful support to you as a growing follower of Christ.

Our purpose?

Sauvie Island Community Church exists to glorify God by living out the teachings of Jesus: worship, learn, follow His Word, love people, repeat.

Come for the Spirit, stay for the fellowship—and maybe spot a heron on your drive in.

🪴 Village Missionaries: Pastor David & Linda Gustafson
(They’re delightful. Think of them as your spiritual neighbors with better coffee.)

Meet The Pastor

Dave and Linda Gustafson first discovered Village Missions while attending a missions conference at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon. That moment sparked a lifelong calling. In 1988, they officially became Village Missionaries and went on to serve faithfully in three churches over the course of 23 years.

Having both grown up in small towns, Dave and Linda deeply understand the unique bond that forms when church and community feel like family. They’ve lived out the heart of Village Missions’ motto: “Preach the Word and love the people.”

After stepping away from full-time ministry for a season, they’ve returned with renewed purpose excited faithfully serve the people of Sauvie Island Community Church. Now in their sixties, their life motto is simple and inspiring:
“Rather than retire, we wish to inspire!”
